She is fireweed struggling up out of the ashes, purple petals ablaze... a smile, a grimace, a gift... she is a child, open heart surgery and crossed eyes... silence, sign language, whispers and song... she is the first snow, the last brittle leaf of the winter oak, the first wildflower bud... the duckling, awkward, learning to fly... the shy kitten, determined, making her own way... she is a raindrop clinging to a pine needle... the tempest, the eye of the storm, the sunburst... She is the one who always finds my heart, before I know it is lost.

This was a beautiful entry in the Challenge, Kathy. It choked me up and brought a tear to my eye. I should have named you all Honorable Mentions in this Challenge. Thanks for bringing it here so that everyone might enjoy it. |

She is fireweed struggling up out of the ashes, purple petals ablaze... Kathy, lovely your short sharp lines. My only wonder - Does fireweed struggle or spring up happy for the opportunity? Smiles. Gary

M, thanks. Gary, thanks. I think the fireweed's choice could go either way. Struggling is for my daughter's early life. She is happy to be here. K |

I hang on that last line every time I read it. Beautiful tribute Kathy. The Age of Nations is past. The task before us now, if we would not perish, is to build the earth. - Teilhard de Chardin

This is beautiful Kathy. All, and in particular: she is a child, open heart surgery and crossed eyes... silence, sign language, whispers and song... Unique images and a powerful message. E |
